As cannabis moves toward Schedule III status, employers are facing new questions about workplace safety, performance, and compliance. This session provides a clear, science-based overview of cannabis, what it is, common products and methods of use, and its short-term effects on mood, alertness, coordination, and decision-making.

Participants will explore how these effects translate into real workplace considerations, particularly in safety-sensitive roles, and what HR professionals should know about recognizing impairment and addressing performance concerns. The session also reviews the potential legal and policy implications of rescheduling, including impacts on testing practices and employer responsibilities. Attendees will leave with practical guidance and key considerations for updating policies, training supervisors, and maintaining a safe, fair, and compliant workplace in a changing legal environment.
